Tour De Georgia in Alpharetta

The Tour de Georgia passed within about 1/4 mile of part of our second favorite bike path this afternoon so we checked it out. pictures They closed off some roads that are normally full of cars. After the race was over we had some excitement getting back to the bike path. Nicolas and I crossed North Point parkway which is 8 lanes (4 each way plus an island) and Thomas made it across the 4 southbound lanes and stopped at the island then the light turned red and he did stop but then a guy in a car whose light had just turned green felt bad for us so he got out of his car and got the cooperation of the other drivers in the other lanes and stopped 4 lanes of traffic despite the green light so Thomas could cross. Thomas was embarrassed (ok me too) but it was a nice gesture.

Lance Armstrong who is a famous bike rider almost as famous as Cheryl Crow was in the race and people kept yelling "Lance! Lance! Lance! Lance!" as the group passed. The group passed 12 times because it was the final part of the race and they were doing laps at the end. I am not sure if i ever got a picture of Mr. Armstrong. My best guess is that he's here, two guys behind the yellow guy.

Spectators were milling about with their $800 TREKs or their $3200 Cannondales so i couldn't decide whether to be ashamed or smug sitting there with my $8.08 schwinn 4130 bike from goodwill. And my Blue Water rappelling helmet. (at goodwill they price the cents to kinda match the dollars so that it is harder for the unscrupulous to alter prices hence $8.08 instead of $7.99).
